'Watch Dogs 2': Game Map Open From The Start, No Tower Unlocking Needed
Jazz RosinUbisoft has a penchant for map-unlocking towers. "Assassin's Creed," "Far Cry," and even the first "Watch Dogs 2" has them. "Watch Dogs 2," however, will be different.
Creative director Jonathan Morin said in an interview with Eurogamer that there will be no towers in "Watch Dogs 2" this time around.
"It's not a game where you open your map and everything's there," Morin said. "There are no towers. You just explore the world."
The map in "Watch Dogs 2," which is reported by Gamingbolt as twice the size of the first "Watch Dogs" game, will be open to players from the start, and no unlocking is necessary.
The progression in "Watch Dogs 2" is not dependent on the main storyline. Players will instead unlock more activities or "quests" depending on the number of Dedsec followers.
"Every time you get followers, it's like you're unlocking the DedSec hivemind," Morin continued. "You're also unlocking new knowledge, new operations, new co-op missions. And then organically you hit those end-game milestones."
Morin also said that players don't even need to finish the entire story to progress. There are three milestones in the story that will end the game's narrative, but everything else can be unlocked through either free-roam or co-op.
Co-op play is also an entirely new addition in "Watch Dogs 2." Players have the option to collaborate with other players to complete tasks. There are full co-op missions available as well, but people can choose to finish the entire game solo if they wanted to, but it could pose a great challenge.
"I think that'll be quite difficult," Morin said. "Still, there's always someone spectacular out there who can, so why not let them?"
The story of "Watch Dogs 2" is also said to be much more colorful than Aiden Pearce's darker storyline. The new protagonist Marcus Holloway is also described to be more charismatic and sociable than Aiden.
"Watch Dogs 2" will be available for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC on November 15.
