In our Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z3 comparison, we have included the specs that will highlight the areas in which the two phones are similar and completely different. Even though the Xperia Z5 is touted to be superior to the Z3 phone in terms of camera, processor, and security, buying a device will totally depend on your budget and specs requirements.

Both the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z5 sport a metal and glass chassis with dust and water-resistant functionalities. The only difference in the Z5 phone is the shape of the power button, which is oval instead of round as it consists of a fingerprint scanner for added security measures.

Also, the Sony smartphones feature similar display with a 5.2-inch LCD screen with full HD display along with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution. However, the Xperia Z5 is stated to optimized touchscreen with 4K display support.

In terms of performance-related specs, the Sony Xperia Z3 consists of a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with 3 GB RAM and internal storage options of 16 GB and 32 GB. On the other hand, the Xperia Z5 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with the same 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of onboard storage expandable via a microSD slot.

As far as the camera specs are concerned, the Xperia Z5 excels with a 23-megapixel rear and a 5.1-megapixel front camera compared to the Z3's 20.7-megapixel rear and 2.2-megapixel front camera. The former device also consists of additional features like the hybrid image stabilizer, Exmor RS sensor, and the continuous auto-focus functionality.  

Furthermore, the Sony Xperia Z5 runs on the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and also has received an Android Marshmallow update. The Xperia Z3 was initially shipped with Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but later received the Android Lollipop OS update.

In terms of battery, the Xperia Z3 sports a 3,100 mAh battery with two-day life even with continuous usage. On the other hand, the Z5 smartphone consists of a slightly smaller 2,900 mAh battery with almost similar device life support as that of the Z3.

The Sony Xperia Z3 has been priced at $450, whereas the Xperia Z5 is available for $962, a relatively huge budget difference.

To sum up, the Sony Xperia Z5 sure has an upper hand over the Z3 phone with better processor and camera, but in the end, whether you should upgrade or not will depend on your needs and budget.
