A heartbreaking news awaits all "Regular Show" fans. The hit animated series will come to an end, as Cartoon Network opted not to renew "Regular Show" for a ninth season.

"From JG's original pitch on post-it notes, through eight successful seasons and more than 250 episodes produced, 'Regular Show' has been one of the most original animated series of this generation creating indelible characters and signature comedy mayhem-laced with heart," Variety quoted Cartoon Network chief content officer Rob Sorcher as saying.

Sorcher added: "Our sincere thanks to this talented crew and cast for their incredible dedication, and I'm proud that they all agreed to go up in space together for one hilarious final journey."

From maker and executive producer JG Quintel, "Regular Show" takes after the daily lives of best friends - a blue jay, Mordecai (voiced by Quintel) and a racoon, Rigby (William Salyers). The two work as groundskeepers at a local park, yet spends most of their day attempting to keep away from work by enthralling themselves in any activities.

"Making 'Regular Show' has been so much fun," said Quintel. "We got to tell all of the stories we wanted to tell, and making the choice to go out exactly how we want to go out. We're so proud and excited for people to see how we're wrapping things up in a big, big way. We're bringing everything full circle."

The upcoming eight season, which is slated to premiere later in September, will introduce a definitive intergalactic skirmish of good versus evil. The protagonist, Mordecai and Rigby, are now joined by Pops, Muscle Man, Benson (all voiced by Sam Marin) and Skips (Mark Hamill).

According to Zap2it, the first two episodes of "Regular Show" season 8 will air back-to-back on Sept. 26, Monday. The first episode is dubbed "One Space Day at a Time," while the second one is titled "Cool Bro Bots."

Cartoon Network's "Regular Show" will conclude on January 2017.
