'Far Cry Primal' Not Getting A Follow Up; Brand New IP Coming Instead Or Sequel Saved For 2017 Release?
C. de LacyWhile Ubisoft isn't necessarily calling it quits for the "Far Cry" series, not making one for an entire year that after a regular annual release is a bit concerning for some. Still, there is good news behind this.
Last month, Ubisoft's VP of Editorial, Tommy Francois' interview with IGN, revealed that there's a very small chance that an "Assassin's Creed" game will be released on 2017. This will follow the no-Assassin's Creed game release this year.
Along with the AC series, the "Far Cry" series is also very likely to be absent next year. Francois made a somewhat blunt, but clear statement of what the company have in mind;
"We believe Alpha for these games needs to be one year before release. We're trying to achieve that. That's super f****** blunt, I don't even know if I'm allowed to say this. This is the goal we're going for: Alpha one year before, more quality, more polish." says Francois.
"So if this means biting the [bullet] and not having an Assassin's game, or a Far Cry [in 2017], f*** it." he added.
With all these said, fans can safely assume that with the term "Alpha," Francois means a game they will be working, but will not officially release. This means the the team will still actually work on something, but not necessarily releasing it the same year.
Right now, there isn't a single word regarding any possible change of heart about not making any "Far Cry" game available immediately after "Far Cry Primal." Still, with releases like "Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection" could be one of the most obvious moves to hold onto the fans while Ubisoft works on something bigger.
There's also a possibility of a "Far Cry HD Collection," which some have already started speculating. After all, what Ubisoft mentioned was they were not going to release a "new" game. This doesn't exactly mean that the company isn't releasing anything "Far Cry" related at all.
As for new IPs, fans will be busy with the impending release of "For Honor" and "Watch Dogs 2" may also hold off fans and gamers while protecting the "Far Cry" franchise from over exposure.
