Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun's "The Legend of the Blue Sea" is reportedly doing good in terms of ratings on its first episode. With this, some speculate that the SBS drama will surely surpass Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo's "Descendants of the Sun."

On November 16, the highly anticipated new, fantasy romance starring Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun aired its first episode. The humorous first encounter between the majestic mermaid and the brilliant forger managed to capture viewers' attentions, resulting in numerous positive reviews. It is outstanding that it hit such high numbers on its first episode.

The first episode of "The Legend of the Blue Sea" recorded a higher number than Park Ji-eun's "My Love from the Star" and "Descendants of the Sun".

According to Nielsen Korea, "The Legend of the Blue Sea" first episode on November 16 rated 16.4% while KBS 2TV "Oh My Geum-bi" rated 5.9% and MBC "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo" rated 3.3%

The new SBS drama first episode is 2% higher than "Descendants of the Sun'"s viewer ratings for its first episode, which recorded 14.3%.

According to Hancinema, tt surpasses "Descendants of the Sun" and "My Love from the Star" which were the most successful dramas of their time.

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" is a fantasy romance drama about a mermaid meeting a genius fraud and getting used to life on land. The story is inspired by a classic Joseon legend. Jun Ji Hyun will play a mermaid who will fall in love with a human played by Lee Min Ho. However, the female protagonist will supposedly be transported into the future. This is where she will meet her love interest's modern day version, who is a genius con artist.

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" airs on SBS every Wednesdays and Thursdays at 22:00 KST.
