Fans of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 are patiently waiting for Nina Dobrev to return before the show finally wraps up.

Previously, it has been reported that the actress will appear as Katherine Pierce in Episode 12 of the season's finale while some reports suggest that Dobrev is already done filming with Ian Somerhalder.

However, latest speculations state that Dobrev will come back as Elena Gilbert in the series after Damon (Ian Somerhalder) gave Sybill the gift Caroline has given him - Elena's necklace. Just recently, it was shown that when Damon offered her the necklace, he missed returning it to Elena in the Season 3 premiere.

There were also reports suggesting that Elena will wake up but she will find both Damon and Stefan dead. "The Vampire Diaries" revolved around the story of Elena even the actress has already left the show.

Meanwhile, many were wondering about how the show will end. Somerhalder, in an interview with Variety said that the showrunners Kevin Willaimson and Julie Plec remain mum about the show's conclusion. But he admitted that he wants Mystic Falls to be in peace as the last episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

"Honestly, I think the best thing for Mystic Falls would be for these guys and all of these vampires and witches to just go away. Let Elena wake up and have these boys gone and never know any of this happened. A phenomenal, go humanity thing would be where these creatures don't win," he said.

"I've created so much death and so much violence on this show that I think it would be such an amazing win for humanity if Damon and Stefan just went bye-bye. Let's hope it happens," he added.

When asked about Nina Dobrev's comeback, the actor said that he has no idea, but he wants the viewers to be happy.

"I don't know. I have zero idea. As a producer, I do have a lot of information and then there's a lot of information I don't have. I want the audience to be happy, but I also am very pro human. I don't think these guys should have the ability to wreak havoc, kill everybody, ruin the lives of so many and then get out with a happy ending. I think the happy ending is that we got to go on this amazing ride with these two guys. They've lived long enough."

There is no confirmation yet as to whether or not Nina Dobrev will return in the finale episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, but many believe that fans will get to see her, sooner or later.
