The series may not be releasing new episodes in the next couple of weeks, but may be back as the new year kicks off.

"Steven Universe" returned with a double-episode "Gem Harvest" and a Christmas special "Three Gems and a Baby," marking an end of a two-month hiatus.

For a quick recap, "Gem Harvest" is a 22-minute Thanksgiving episode, featuring a new character named Andy DeMayo. The episode tells about the hardships of dealing with a distant, bigoted relative.

On the other hand, "Three Gems and a Baby" tells the story of the Gems, Greg and Steven gathering together during a blizzard as they reminisce their first winter together. The Gems noticed something weird inside Steven, but their speculations of him having a unique identity were incorrect.

The new episodes were premiered on November 17 and December 1, respectively. Since then, no new episodes were announced, triggering another round of hiatus and cancellation rumors.

The series' viewership is also on a threat with its declining TV broadcast ratings performance - "Gem Harvest" gathered 1.385 million viewers, while "Three Gems and a Baby" went down by around 99 thousand, to a total of 1.286 million viewers. A few fans are also disappointed on "Three Gems and a Baby's" earlier 7:30pm premiere timeslot, and may have contributed to the viewership decline.

There are currently no new episodes announced for "Steven Universe," but partly because Cartoon Network may not be planning to premiere new episodes for the rest of 2016, in general.

A user in a Reddit discussion regarding the series' potential hiatus pointed out that the network also did not premiere new episodes last year, because December might not be a good month for TV ratings, considering the nature of the holiday season.

With this, it may be safe to assume that the new "Steven Universe" episode may premiere on January 2017. However, there are not any official announcements, so it is unknown if there really are new episodes next year or the show will go on another hiatus.
