Bandai Namco Will Use AI Technology For Smarter Enemies And Bosses In Their Games
Gloven RamosBandai Namco is known for its successful video games. Now, they have invested in artificial intelligence to make their games smarter.
The gaming company plans to use artificial intelligence to create characters in their games. This, they said, would make game characters, especially enemies and bosses, smarter and even stronger than the usual.
In the report of Engadget, it says the team at Heroz have an algorithm for Japanese chess that's defeated several professional human players in public matches. Bandai Namco is hoping to tap into that technology to improve its computer character behavior in future games.
The investment amount is undisclosed to the public. Bandai Namco will invest in an AI company called Heroz to employ prominent engineers in the artificial intelligence field. Regardless of the cost, this investment will probably put the company into a new generation of gaming.
According to Asia Nikkei report, Heroz has struggled to attract users to the Pokémon franchise mobile game they developed and released last April 2016. To draw more players, Bandai Namco will have to find ways of using this startup artificial intelligence technology.
The Heroz's artificial intelligence technology will use by Sony into its new Project Field board game device. It is a thin and lightweight device with the size of a kitchen cutting board that connects to real-world objects so they can be used for controlling games on smartphones and tablets.
The Project Field device by Sony reads the signal from electronic chips in card or even figurines to detect the user's actions. Through wireless connection, the command will relay to smartphones or tablets.
Artificial Intelligence technology will make big revolutionary ideas in the current gaming technology. By using this, Bandai Namco, Sony, and any game developer's product will probably become more advanced.
Bandai Namco's popular games are "Tekken," "Dark Souls," and all "Dragonball" games. It is very exciting to imagine what differences this AI technology could do to these existing games today.
