The "Arrow" Season 5 mid-season finale leaves us all hanging at the edge of our seats, not only the surprising resurrection of Laurel Lance but also the shocking death of Felicity Smoak's boyfriend Billy Malone which will have a serious effect on her.
The second half of this season which returns on January 25, Felicity Smoak will be transitioning from a charming character to a darker one.
"One thing Felicity is not going to do, I can tell you for sure, is blame Oliver. She recognizes the manipulations that have led to this situation," Wendy Mericle said to TV Line regarding Felicity Smoak's change of character in "Arrow" Season 5. "Her heart is broken in that last moment for Oliver and for Malone and for herself," Mericle continued.
This will lead Felicity getting some distance away from the Arrow team that causes her to do things which are "morally questionable". Felicity Smoak will be meeting some people in "Arrow" Season 5 who has issues with their past at the same time the tech geek will also be tied up to the new future she's going to consider.
"As with all things Arrow, it's not initially what you think it is and it will ultimately relate to the overall season theme of legacy, but in this case something very specific to Felicity," said showrunner Marc Guggenheim to Collider.
"We're exploring is how much what Oliver and Diggle and Roy and Laurel have been doing as vigilantes affected her and affected her way of thinking about things," Guggenheim said as a follow-up to his first statement. Comic Book reported that some theories suggest that Felicity Smoak will take on the mantle of her father, The Calculator as a more dangerous hacker.
