Google Daydream View Is A 'Brilliant Piece of Hardware' [Review]

Virtual reality (VR) is on the rise, and VR tech is becoming easily available to consumers thanks to mobile and console-compatible VR tech. The Google Daydream View was released on November 10, 2016, and critics are loving the VR platform.

According to a Kotaku review, the Daydream View a "brilliant piece of hardware." Google's VR platform is a head-mounted display (HMD) covered in a comfortable "fabric texture" that comes with a soft foam material on the inside of the device. The Google Daydream View comes with an easy to adjust head strap and is ergonomically designed.

The device comes with an invisible chip that "connects it to the Google Pixel phone with no effort." While reviewers have nothing but praise for the Google Daydream View, the device's controller also deserves a mention.

The controller is "well-designed" and is a wireless oval-shaped device with four buttons. The four buttons on the controller include a circle (O) and minus ( - ) button on the flat side of the device and a "large trackpad button" on top. Last is the volume button on the side of the Daydream View's controller.

The Google Daydream View's controller is easy to use since using VR makes it harder to navigate more complicated layouts found on other controllers. Because the remote is one-handed, it's easier to use and is newbie-friendly. The Daydream View's one-hand remote also allows for "more relaxed postures" when playing because your elbows are at ease.

The controller even makes it easy to use the Google Daydream View while in bed since the HMD is very light. Because the controller "reports gyroscopic and accelerometric readings," the Daydream View can easy read movements when playing a game. However, there is one downside to Google's Daydream View: there is only a handful of software for the VR device.

Meanwhile, Trusted Reviews has revealed that the Google Daydream View will be available for a discounted price in the United States until Feb. 25. Originally priced at $79, technophiles can now purchase the Daydream View for only $49.
