‘Supernatural’ Season 12 Spoilers: Next Episode Will Show Castiel ‘Before He Was Humanized’

The beginning episodes of “Supernatural” Season 12 featured a lot of angelic action. Castiel, the angel looking over the Winchester brothers, was revealed to be “part of the battalion that was watching Earth.” Now, though, viewers will learn more about him with “at least three really strong Castiel episodes coming up.”

Executive producer Andrew Dabb confirmed to TV Line that the upcoming “Supernatural” Season 12 episode will present a “lost chapter of Castiel’s history.” “He was the guy that harrowed Hell to rescue Dean Winchester,” Dabb said. “Now, we are taking a little twist on it.”

No further details have been provided regarding this twist, except that it will involve Alicia Witt as Lily Sunder, who is one of Castiel’s long-time enemies. “There is perhaps a bit of friction there,” added Witt. This information, however, could be putting it mildly. After all, her history with the male angel “is not necessarily a positive history.”

A bit of information was provided regarding Lily’s backstory in the official episode description. Apparently, she veered away from the rest of the angels as she was intent on arming herself with black magic. This way, she could take her revenge on a group of angels that killed her family.

Misha Collins, the actor who plays Castiel, also revealed that “Supernatural” Season 12 fans will be “seeing the earliest version of Cas to date.” Shortly before the series’ winter hiatus, the cast and crew filmed a scene where he had to deal with Castiel’s former battalion mates from heaven. “It is interesting for him to rehash old memories,” Collins said.

To date, it remains unclear how these upcoming “Supernatural” Season 12 episodes will unfold. However, one of the show’s main actors, Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam Winchester, teased that viewers will be having a glimpse about what Collins’ character was like “before he was humanized a little bit.”
