Annette Bening has been chosen to play as former Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco for the second installment of "American Crime Story." It was announced that the four-time Oscar-nominated actress will begin filming some time this year.

According to Deadline, the next sequel will center on the story of how America responded to the aftermath of hurricane Katrina that struck the U.S. Gulf Coast in Aug. 25, 2005. The upcoming series was aptly titled "Katrina: American Crime Story" and it will show the extent of damage brought about by the storm and how the governor dealt with the devastation of America's deadliest cyclone since 1928.

Commenting on why they opt to feature the disaster as their next story, executive producer Nina Jacobson explained they wanted to show many things like the neglect and disparity that were experienced after the storm. She added that they were inspired by those moments of "disparity between the way our country wants to see itself and the way we actually are."

In another occasion, "American Crime Story" co-executive producer Brad Simpson was quoted by CNN as saying, "We wanted to do something that would still have the epic quality and the thing you remember from Katrina is everybody sitting in their bedrooms and watching these people on their roofs going - 'How can we not help them? How is this happening?'"

At any rate, Annette Bening's casting in the Katrina-themed "American Crime Story" was officially announced by FX earlier this week. With her addition to the cast lineup, many are hoping that her role as the governor will finally give her the awards she deserves such as the Oscars, which she already lost twice to Hilary Swank.

Finally, the Katrina episode of the "American Crime Story" anthology is expected to premiere on TV in 2018. This will be followed by the story about the murder of famed fashion designer Gianni Versace in 1997. Lastly, the fourth installment will feature the controversial Monica Lewinsky scandal in the White House.
