Brad Pitt's 'World War Z 2' 'Delayed Indefinitely'

We have sad news for both Brad Pitt fans and zombie enthusiasts. According to recent reports, "World War Z 2" had been removed from Paramount's 2017 release schedule.

MovieWeb has revealed that following the cancellation of the "Friday the 13th" remake, Paramount Pictures has announced that "World War Z 2" has been "delayed indefinitely." The first "World War Z" movie, which was based on the book of the same name by Max Brooks and starred Brad Pitt, also faced several bumps in the road.

The film went through several reshoots before "World War Z" hit theaters in 2013. Paramount initially believed that the film would bomb at the box office, but the zombie-filled action horror movie earned enough to "warrant a sequel." "World War Z" earned at least $540 million worldwide.

However, it looks like the sequel is also having trouble. Both Paramount Pictures and Skydance Entertainment planned to screen the film on June 9, 2017. The release date is only five months away and production still hasn't begun for "World War Z 2."

While Paramount still hasn't revealed the new release date for the sequel, a handful of studio insiders say that "the movie will be re-prepped and shot in time for a 2018 or 2019 release date." In 2013, "World War Z 2's" 2017 was announced soon after the first film was released in theaters.

In 2016, director J.A. Bayona left the project and in August 2016, rumors started floating around that David Fincher, who collaborated with Pitt on "Se7en" and "Fight Club," could direct the sequel. As of the moment, the director for the "World War Z" sequel is still unknown.

According to Bustle, "what exactly happened to warrant the World War Z sequel's 2017 release date getting nixed is still a bit up in the air." The sequel's sudden hiatus is "uncommon," especially since Paramount is "a big studio who has the time and opportunity to simply move the release date back rather than nix a project altogether."
