Next OnePlus Flagship Confirmed to be Called the OnePlus 5 instead of OnePlus 4
Charles LimUp until now, there has been some debate regarding the actual name of OnePlus' upcoming flagship smartphone. Some fans have claimed that OnePlus may be branding their next generation offering as the OnePlus 4, while others have argued that the company may skip the number "4" moniker altogether.
According to Android Authority, Chinese companies do normally skip the number "4" on their branding and codenames due to a superstitious belief that the number only brings bad luck. For this reason, fans had speculated that OnePlus may follow in this tradition. However, some fans think that OnePlus may not necessarily be following this tradition as most big Asian tech firms have pushed their superstitious beliefs aside when it comes to international products.
Now, new reports have just emerged, which have seemingly confirmed that OnePlus may indeed be skipping a number and call their device the OnePlus 5 instead of the OnePlus 4. The upcoming flagship will be the successor to the OnePlus 3T and the latest reports have only confirmed previous claims of the skipped number.
According to GSM Arena, the smartphone apparently surfaced in China's Radio Regulation Authority / Wireless authority with the model number A5000. The OnePlus 3 was originally launched with the model number A3000, while the OnePlus 3T was designated with the model number A3010. Based on the model of the newly spotted device, there is now no doubt that the upcoming new flagship will be called the OnePlus 5.
The new flagship is scheduled to be unveiled during the second half of 2017. With the device now passing the Chinese regulatory agency, its launch may close at hand. The OnePlus 5 is expected to come with a 5.5-inch 2K display with a 1080 x 2048 pixel resolution. The device is rumored to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and paired with 6 or 8 GB of RAM.
