Google over the past few months has introduced a host of new features to Google Play for users in a bid to make it more friendly and easy to use. However, the company is still looking for new methods to make the Google Play experience even better and now, per reports, the search giant has revealed a new Google Play feature designed with business-friendliness in mind.
The Google Play Private Channel lets an organization create an easily accessible page for employees to install the company’s private apps. The channel shows up with its own section on the main Google Play Apps screen, which then takes employees right to the list of available apps.
Google states that as the Google Play Store is the place to find Android apps like the Google+ app, the Google Drive app and hundreds of thousands more, the company is expanding “the Google Play Store for our Google Apps customers to help you distribute internal apps to your employees through the Google Play Private Channel.”
"The Google Play Private Channel for Google Apps (the Private Channel), allows Google Apps domains to distribute internal Android applications to their users through the Google Play Store," notes the support page.
“Whether you’ve built a custom expense reporting app for employees or a conference room finder, the Google Play Private Channel is designed to make your organization’s internal apps quick and easy for employees to find,” the official page states. “Once your company has loaded these internal apps using the Google Play Developer Console, users just need to log in with their company email address to browse the Private Channel and download apps.”
These new changes, accordingly, make it even easier to get the internal Android apps a company develops into employees’ hands. The company also states that a Google Apps for business, education, or government domain “can have a Private Channel on the Google Play Store. The Google Apps domain administrators can allow domain users to register with the Android Developer Console to publish Android applications to the Private Channel. The publisher account owner who registered with the Android Developer Console must be a Google Apps user in the same domain, such as internal IT staff, and not external developers.”
While this news may not seem like a big deal to most, in reality, Google is following the strategies once mastered by the BlackBerry devices and business acceptance is a big deal for smartphone platforms.
