Electronic Arts (EA) and DICE are reportedly gearing up to unveil the brand new Battlefield 4 shooter on March 26 to expand the popular franchise.
Those craving for some more information about the next-generation Battlefield shooter, however, are out of luck for now, because not many details are available at the moment.
Gamespot received an official invitation for an upcoming Battlefield 4 event in San Francisco on March 26 at 7 p.m. PT, where Electronic Arts and DICE promise to "celebrate a new era of Battlefield." The event will be part of the 2013 Game Developers Conference which takes place from March 25 to 29.
EA announced plans for Battlefield 4 last July, touting that a beta for the game will launch sometime in the fall of 2013. Gamers who purchased the Medal of Honor: Warfighter title are guaranteed access to the beta.
Last month, EA Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Blake Jorgensen said during a conference call with investors that Battlefield 4 looked "stunning" on the PlayStation 4. EA did not yet announce Battlefield 4 as coming to Sony's next-generation flagship box, but the military shooter would likely work wonders on the new platform.
Speaking of things yet unofficial, gaming blog Kotaku leaked an image from Battlefield 4's box art, allegedly portraying scenes from the upcoming game. The leaked image features a tank and a very detailed armored male character carrying a pistol and a sniper rifle. It has the familiar blue and orange color scheme that is common in Battlefield 3, and one of the in-set pictures near the soldier could render Shanghai's skyline. This could indicate a greater Chinese presence in Battlefield 4, but it's just a hint for now.
Meanwhile, Battlefield 4 may be just one of several new franchise entries currently in the works. Earlier rumors and reports suggested that DICE, the series developer, was also working on a new entry in the series: Battlefield: Bad Company 3.
March 26, however, is just around the corner, which means that more details about the upcoming Battlefield 4 will become available soon enough. Stay tuned for the big unveiling.
