LG L70 Android KitKat smartphone to launch April 1 for roughly $160
Alexandra BurlacuThe LG L70 seems to be ready for a global debut in April and is expected to retail for a very budget-friendly price of around $160.
LG unveiled its latest handsets back at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014. The company has already revealed that the higher-end L90 is ready for shipping, but it hasn't announced when the lower-end L70 and L40 models will make their commercial debut.
According to a new report and an online listing, the middle device of the company's third-generation L series, i.e. the LG L70, will launch early next month for a little over $160. A listing on ePrice shows the L70 set to go on sale through Chungwa Telecom in Taiwan starting on April 1 for TWD 4,990, which would translate to roughly $163.
Amazon.de, meanwhile, shows the phone at a much higher price point of €179, i.e. about $245. Amazon's German arm doesn't disclose when the phone will actually become available, but a PhoneArena report points out that the phone's UI shows the date of April 1, which could be a hint for the launch date in Germany.
The LG L70 is the middle device of the new budget series. It comes with low-end specifications, but boasts a premium-looking body and runs the latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS, which is quite impressive for an entry-level handset. LG has also packed various software features that proved popular among consumers, including Knock Code, Guest Mode, Plug & Pop, QSlide 2.5, and others. The smartphone even has QuickWindow cases specifically designed for it.
In terms of specifications, the LG L70 comes with a 4.5-inch WVGA IPS display, a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage capacity, a 5-megapixel rear camera, and a 2,040 mAh battery.
LG has yet to provide more availability details or a list of countries where the L70 will become available, but for now it seems that China and Germany will get it on April 1. The company should make an official announcement with more details in the next few days, as the handset gets closer to launch. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more, so stay tuned.
