iPhone 6 leaked schematics again hint to large display, but not the previously-rumored dimensions
Alexandra BurlacuMonths ahead of the iPhone 6's expected launch, the rumors are intensifying and newly-leaked schematics bolster claims of a larger display.
Apple is expected to take the wraps off its next-generation iPhone sometime in September, which would be in line with its previous launch schedules, and the iPhone 6 is widely expected to finally make the jump to a larger display.
The most prominent rumor so far has claimed that Apple would launch its iPhone 6 in two large-screen variants, one with a 4.7-inch display and one that would join the phablet market with a 5.5-inch screen. Various leaks and reports have supported that claim and now we have some new information hinting at a larger iPhone, but not with the previously-alleged screen sizes.
French publication Nowhereelse claims to have obtained a document from a Chinese website, showing a purported schematic design for Apple's next-generation iPhone 6. The alleged schematics show the device with a length of 5.9 inches and a width of 3.3 inches. Compared to the current iPhone 5S flagship, which measures 4.87 inches in length and 2.32 inches in width, the new model would mark a significant increase in size.
According to the French publication, however, those dimensions would translate into a diagonal of about 5 inches. In other words, this new alleged screen size doesn't really fall in line with either of the previously-rumored models with 4.7- and 5.5-inch displays.
On the other hand, although the dimensions hinted in this schematic don't really match up with previous reports, there is a possibility that Apple is trying out various prototypes with different dimensions.
Either way, all signs seem to point to at least one iPhone version with a larger screen to come out this year, and it would make sense for Apple to move in this direction. While rivals have been launching increasingly-larger smartphones, the largest size yet for an iPhone display is 4 inches, which is too small for some.
The iPhone 5S looks quite "mini" compared to new flagship handsets from the likes of Samsung, HTC, LG, Nokia, and others, and Apple is widely expected to join the large-screen smartphone party this year.
Keep in mind, however, that nothing is for certain at this point and all available information is based solely on leaks and speculation. As always in such cases, it is advisable to take everything with a grain of salt for now.
