Nokia Lumia 930 Windows Phone 8.1 powerhouse now official, definitely doesn’t disappoint (VIDEO)
Alexandra BurlacuNokia has officially introduced the much-touted Lumia 930 smartphone powerhouse, which is essentially an international version of Lumia Icon.
As expected, the Finnish company came at Microsoft's BUILD 2014 conference bearing great news for Lumia fans. Nokia had scheduled a press event for April 2, the first day of the conference, to unveil new hardware running Microsoft's latest Windows Phone 8.1 operating system.
One of the most highly-anticipated devices expected to debut at the show was the Nokia Lumia 930, a global version of the popular Lumia Icon that is available only in the U.S., as an exclusive to Verizon Wireless. The smartphone is now official, so here's what to expect.
Nokia Lumia 930 Specs
The new Nokia Lumia 930 sports a 5-inch full HD display, a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, and a high-end 20-megapixel rear camera with Carl Zeiss lens and PureView technology.
The camera, in fact, is one of the main attractions of this smartphone, boasting top-notch features. It boasts optical image stabilization (OIS) and the handset also has a Creative Studio application that allows users to add filters to photos for an Instagram-like effect. A new feature called "Living Images," meanwhile, works great with Nokia's Storyteller app.
The Lumia 930 will automatically sort photos and videos by time and location, making them easier to find, and users can also add music to the background when browsing through their gallery.
"With a 20MP PureView Camera and four directional microphones with Surround-Sound, you can capture High-quality photos and immersive video with sound that's more true-to-life than ever before. Use the Nokia Camera app to take full creative control of your photos, then unleash your creations upon the world through Nokia Storyteller, Instagram and your favourite social networks," touts Nokia.
Lumia 930 Features & Windows Phone 8.1 Goodies
Other features include four high-end digital microphones, directional stereo recording, and a "SensorCore" that ties into the Bing Health & Fitness app, among others.
The smartphone runs the latest Windows Phone 8.1 OS out of the box, which will bring several neat goodies, including the long-awaited notification center, as well as Cortana, Microsoft's answer to Siri and Google Now.
The Nokia Lumia 930 comes with 32GB of internal storage capacity (7GB of free OneDrive cloud storage) and has 2GB of RAM for a smooth and fluid performance. It is 4G LTE-enabled, supports wireless charging, and its full HD display boasts "astonishing sunlight readability."
Design & Color Options
In terms of design, the new Lumia flagship smartphone looks beautiful, stylish and vibrant, just as expected.
"Standing apart from all that dare to get close, the Nokia Lumia 930 blends the striking good looks of recent Lumia devices with an elegant and unique design all of its own; gorgeous aluminium frame, metallic accents, and a nicely curved polycarbonate back with vibrant colour choices of bright orange, bright green, black, and white," Nokia further adds.
Pricing & Availability
When it comes to availability, the Nokia Lumia 930 will launch in Europe first starting in June, with Asia and other markets set to follow afterwards. The smartphone should become available on more than 100 operators and will cost roughly $599 unlocked. No information is currently available regarding the smartphone's availability in the U.S., but the Lumia Icon is already available here.
