iPhone 6 to launch on Sept. 19, Deutsche Telekom reportedly claims
Alexandra BurlacuApple's next-generation iPhone 6 will reportedly hit store shelves on or around September 19, if newly-leaked information proves to be accurate.
The iPhone 6 is definitely one of the most highly-anticipated smartphones of this year. While iPhones in general are widely popular and create a lot of hype ahead of a new iteration's launch, this time expectations are even higher as Apple will finally move to a larger display. In fact, the iPhone 6 will reportedly launch in two large-screen variants, one with a 4.7-inch display and another with a massive 5.5-inch screen.
A German website (via Apple Insider) now claims that local carrier Deutsche Telekom is instructing its call-center employees to entice customers with a mid-September launch for the iPhone 6. More specifically, Deutsche Telekom representatives are reportedly telling customers to stick with the wireless operator for a Sept. 19 iPhone 6 launch.
While it would be quite odd for Apple to give such details so far in advance, Germany is one of the first countries to get new Apple devices, and Sept. 19 does fall on a Friday. Since 2011, Apple has introduced its latest iPhones on a Friday, giving customers a full weekend to get accustomed to their new gadget.
The date also falls in line with the company's recent product launches, but as Apple Insider also points out, the specific Sept. 19 date is most likely just an educated guess.
Back in 2011, Apple launched its iPhone 4 on Oct. 4, the next year it launched the iPhone 5 on Sept. 21, while the latest iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C models made their debut on Sept. 20, 2013. All of those dates have been on Fridays.
Apple has not announced nor confirmed any date for this year's iPhone launch, but the iPhone 6 is nonetheless expected to arrive sometime in September as per the company's previous launch schedules.
The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is rumored to launch first, while the larger 5.5-inch model would follow sometime afterwards. Both new iPhone models are expected to boast high-end specs and features, Touch ID fingerprint scanners, Sapphire glass, and more, running on a new iOS 8 operating system. With nothing officially confirmed at this point, however, it is highly advisable to take all leaks, rumors, and speculations with a pinch of salt.
