BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) landing on Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform in July
Alexandra BurlacuBlackBerry Messenger has long been expected to become available on Windows Phone, and it will finally hit Microsoft's mobile platform next month.
The messaging system is widely popular worldwide despite BlackBerry's downfall. The company may not have had much success recently with its hardware devices, but the decision to release BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) on other platforms was welcomed by many smartphone users across the world.
BBM is already available for iOS and Android, and Microsoft's Windows Phone platform was next in line to get the treat. The app has grown in popularity since it arrived on multiple platforms, and a Windows Phone launch will further boost its success.
We already knew BBM was set to arrive on Windows Phone, but now we also know when it will make its debut on Microsoft's mobile platform. During the company's recent earnings call, BlackBerry CEO John Chen announced that BlackBerry Messenger will hit the Windows Phone platform as soon as July, CrackBerry reports.
Moreover, Chen further showed off the company's latest BlackBerry smartphone, called the BlackBerry Passport, which is set to launch later this year with the new BlackBerry 10.3 OS on board.
The Canadian company has been struggling for quite some time to regain relevance on the smartphone market, after being significantly outshined by rivals. To further bolster its portfolio, BlackBerry has also recently announced that it signed an agreement with Amazon to add over 200,000 Android apps to its BlackBerry devices when BlackBerry 10.3 makes its debut, in an effort to make its platform and devices more appealing.
No other details are currently available regarding what features BlackBerry Messenger will sport on the Windows Phone platform. It should however, come with similar features as on the other platforms.
While the company CEO said that BBM will land on Windows Phone in July, no exact launch date is available at this point. Once it hits Microsoft's platform, BlackBerry Messenger will be a truly cross-platform service available on BlackBerry, Android, iOS, and Windows Phone.
We'll keep you up to date as soon as we hear more details regarding the release date. For now, rest assured that BlackBerry Messenger is ready to land on Windows Phone as soon as next month.
