Windows Phone 8.1 Nokia Lumia 635 hits T-Mobile and MetroPCS this month
Alexandra BurlacuThe budget-friendly Nokia Lumia 635, which rocks the latest Windows Phone 8.1, is ready to land on T-Mobile and MetroPCS in the U.S. very soon.
Microsoft unveiled two affordable Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones back at its Build 2014 conference, in the form of the Nokia Lumia 630 and Lumia 635. Both smartphones are incredibly similar, with one notable difference: the Lumia 635 comes with 4G LTE support, whereas the Lumia 630 does not.
Lumia fans in the U.S. who are waiting for the launch of the Lumia 635 are in for some good news, as both T-Mobile and MetroPCS will start offering the handset this month.
"The Lumia 635 represents the next stage in the evolution of both the Windows Phone OS and the best-selling Lumia 521," T-Mobile Senior Vice President of Marketing, Jason Young, said in the press release on Tuesday, July 1. "The Lumia 635's advanced features, functionality and design - combined with its amazing price point - make this an absolutely screaming deal. And, once again, the Un-carrier is first out of the gate, offering up the Lumia 635 weeks before the other guys through both T-Mobile and MetroPCS."
"We are thrilled to partner with T-Mobile to bring the Lumia 635 to the U.S. market and to T-Mobile customers for the first time," added Matt Rothschild, Head of North America Sales at Microsoft Mobile Devices. "With high-end features, hundreds of thousands of apps available through the Windows Store plus the latest Windows Phone 8.1 experience and Cortana, the Lumia 635 is undoubtedly one of the best affordable smartphone available today."
As a reminder, the Nokia Lumia 635 sports a 4.5-inch display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage capacity, a microSD card slot for additional memory, a 5-megapixel rear camera, and 4G LTE support.
The Nokia Lumia 635 will join T-Mobile's network on July 5, available for purchase through the Home Shopping Network (HSN) to Simple Choice prepaid customers. The handset will then become available for purchase from T-Mobile's website on July 9, for $0 upfront followed by 24 equal monthly payments of $7 with a post-paid T-Mobile Simple Choice plan. The Nokia Lumia 635 will also land in T-Mobile retail stores on July 16, as well as MetroPCS stores from July 18, for a promo price of $99 without a contract.
