Samsung Galaxy F or European Galaxy S5 LTE-A spotted in Bluetooth SIG database
Alexandra BurlacuThe much-rumored Samsung Galaxy F metal smartphone is yet to debut, but it has apparently dropped by the Bluetooth SIG with model number SM-G901F.
Samsung has long been rumored to be cooking up a metal-clad smartphone, but so far nothing has materialized. While its rivals launch high-end smartphones made from premium materials, Samsung has stuck to plastic even for its top-end devices. The company was widely rumored to release its new Galaxy S5 flagship in two variants, a regular one made of plastic and a higher-end model with a metal design, but only one version made it to the market.
Nevertheless, the rumor mill keeps churning in anticipation of a metal version of the Galaxy S5, which will reportedly launch as the Galaxy F. Samsung is expected to take the wraps off its Galaxy F smartphone at the IFA 2014 trade show that takes place this September in Berlin, and more information has now surfaced regarding this premium handset.
The purported Samsung Galaxy F has apparently made it to the Bluetooth SIG, turning up in its database with model number SM-G901F, according to GforGames. This model number has been associated with both the Samsung Galaxy S5-LTE A and the premium Galaxy F.
While the current Galaxy S5 flagship is a powerhouse on its own, the upcoming Galaxy F is expected to boast even more impressive specifications. In addition to the premium metal design, the handset will reportedly come with a 5.1-inch QHD display with a high resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Improvements are also expected under the hood, as the Galaxy F is rumored to pack a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz, paired with a hefty 3GB of RAM.
The Galaxy F will reportedly feature the same cameras as the existing Galaxy S5, i.e. a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front shooter. The handset is expected to come with LTE-A support and run the very latest version of Android.
In a subsequent update to its report, GforGames claims to have learned that this model spotted in the Bluetooth SIG database might in fact be the European version of the LTE-A Galaxy S5, which was initially announced as a Korean exclusive.
It remains to be seen whether this device is the elusive metal Galaxy F or the European version of the Galaxy S5 LTE-A, but if it received Bluetooth certification it's clear that it's approaching its debut. We'll keep an eye out for any new information, but take everything with a grain of salt in the meantime.
