iPhone 6 to boast new 13-megapixel Sony Exmor sensor
Alexandra BurlacuThe iPhone 6 may come rocking a 13-megapixel rear camera with a Sony Exmor sensor, if new information turns out to be accurate.
Apple's next-generation iPhone is definitely among the most highly anticipated devices of this year, and all sorts of leaks, rumors, and reports have tried to paint a picture of what to expect from the iPhone 6. The general belief is that Apple will finally move to larger screens and launch the iPhone 6 in two models, one with a 4.7-inch panel and the other with an even bigger 5.5-inch display.
Rumors so far have also indicated that the iPhone 6 will boast an extra-durable sapphire glass display cover, pack a powerful A8 processor, feature wireless charging capabilities, and more. Previous whispers also claimed that the new-generation iPhone would come with an updated camera, and the latest leak now offers more details in this regards.
The current iPhone 5S already features a Sony Exmor sensor for its 8-megapixel rear camera, but the latest report reveals that the iPhone 6 will rock a significantly upgraded 13-megapixel camera module with a 1/2.3 Sony Exmor sensor. This camera unit will be able to record high-quality videos at a 3840 x 1080 resolution sampling. The news comes from Digi Wo (via GforGames), which has a pretty good track record when it comes to leaking Sony-related information.
The same sensor is expected to grace the upcoming Sony Xperia Z3 as well, although it will be in the form of a 20-megapixel shooter, according to reports.
Apple is widely expected to take the wraps off its new iPhone 6 in September. Speculation so far indicated that it may unveil the smartphone on Sept. 9, ahead of a commercial release on Sept. 19. It remains unclear at this point whether both iPhone 6 models will launch simultaneously or the 4.7-inch version will hit the market first. The 5.5-inch model is reportedly facing some production issues that may delay its launch or result in limited availability, but it's all in the rumor state for now.
With nothing officially confirmed at this point, it's highly advisable to take all iPhone 6-related rumors with a hefty grain of salt. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information surfaces.
