Sony Xperia Z2 officially launches in U.S. for $699.99 unlocked
Alexandra BurlacuThe Sony Xperia Z2 flagship smartphone has finally made its official debut in the U.S., as the handset is now available through the Sony Store.
While the Sony Xperia Z2 has been available for purchase in other regions for quite some time, interested customers in the U.S. have not had access to the handset until now. Sony said a while back that it will start selling the unlocked smartphone in the U.S. in July, and the company is now making good on its promise.
The Sony Store is now listing the unlocked Xperia Z2 smartphone with a $699.99 price tag, down from the standard retail price of $749.99. A price cut of $50 is pretty attractive, but $699.99 is nonetheless a large amount to shell out at once. However, currently there is no option to buy the handset subsidized from any U.S. carrier.
As a reminder, the Sony Xperia Z2 flagship sports a 5.2-inch full HD Triluminos display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card support for additional memory of up to 128GB, and a 3,200 mAh battery to keep things up and running.
One of the strongest points of the Xperia Z2, however, lies in the camera department, as the handset boasts a 20-7-megapixel rear shooter with Exmor RS for mobile image sensor and 4K video recording capabilities. The smartphone also comes with a 2.2-megapixel front camera for video chats and self shots.
Moreover, the Sony Xperia Z2 comes with a high IP58 rating that makes it both dust- and water-resistant, provided that all ports and covers are properly closed.
The Sony Xperia Z2 is now available from the Sony Store in three color options - black, white, and purple - but it currently appears on backorder. Sony lists no precise date for when the smartphone will actually start shipping. It's also worth mentioning that the Xperia Z2 model available for purchase in the U.S. is the international LTE model (D6503) and is compatible with AT&T's and T-Mobile's networks.
