Apple planning two fall launch events: iPhone in September, iWatch in October
Alexandra BurlacuApple is reportedly gearing up for not one, but two events this fall, where it will announce its iPhone 6 and the much-rumored iWatch.
The iPhone 6 is one of the most highly-anticipated devices of this year, and it's widely expected to make its debut this September in at least one large-screen model. According to a new report, the company may unveil its next-generation iPhone in mid-September.
"Apple is gearing up for its first major hardware and software launches of 2014. The Cupertino-based company is 'tentatively' planning a keynote address in mid-September to announce the iPhone 6 and provide final details on iOS 8, according to sources briefed on the plans," 9to5Mac reports.
According to the publication's sources, Apple will likely hold its event in the second or third week of September, but some "manufacturing uncertainties" could change the timeframe of the event. Apple has reportedly not made a final decision yet, and the sources pointed out that "plans are in flux."
"The event will showcase at least the new iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch screen, the sources say, but a final decision on debuting the larger, 5.5-inch 'phablet' model at the event has not been made," adds the report. "The 4.7-inch variant of the new phone is farther along in both internal testing and manufacturing preparation, the sources added."
The next-generation iPhone 6 will be a major turn point for Apple, as it will finally come with a larger display. So far, Apple has stuck to smaller screens, topping at four inches, while its rivals have launched smartphones with increasingly bigger displays.
The iPhone 6 will also rock the latest iOS 8 mobile operating system, and Apple is reportedly racing to complete the software's development. The company plans to release the fifth and likely final iOS 8 beta to developers on Monday, Aug. 4, the sources further revealed to 9to5Mac. Apple will add the final touches to its beta 5 early next week and will complete a golden master version of iOS 8 either in late August or early September. This would leave plenty of time for carrier testing and installing the new iOS onto iPhone 6 units while in production.
Apple is also reportedly planning a second event for this fall, which will take place in October. The company's much-rumored iWatch will likely be the star of this event, but Apple is also expected to detail the upcoming OS X Yosemite in October. Moreover, the company should also launch new iPad versions this fall.
