AT&T launches HTC Desire 610, Amazon Fire Phone – Specs, pricing & availability
Alexandra BurlacuAT&T just added two new smartphones to its portfolio: the Amazon Fire Phone and the HTC Desire 610.
The Fire Phone marks Amazon's first foray into the highly-competitive smartphone market, but it remains to be seen whether it will manage to perform well and attract buyers. The HTC Desire 610, meanwhile, is a mid-range handset with mainly mediocre specifications, but it comes with a low price tag and some neat software features that are usually found on higher-end devices.
Amazon Fire Phone
Amazon's first smartphone joins AT&T's lineup with a $199 price tag on a two year contract. In terms of specifications, the handset comes with a 4.7-inch HD display with 720p resolution, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 32GB of internal storage capacity, and a 13-megapixel camera, among the highlights. The Fire Phone doesn't necessarily rely on internal specs to make an impression, however, as its strong point lies in its 3D effect. The device uses four front cameras to create a dynamic, 3D interface.
Moreover, the Amazon Fire Phone also comes with the company's Mayday service for quick troubleshooting, as well as Firefly, which comes in handy when you want to purchase things around you.
HTC Desire 610
The HTC Desire 610, on the other hand, comes as an affordable handset with specs to match. The smartphone costs just 99 cents on-contract or $199 with no strings attached, which makes it a good deal for those who don't want to commit to a lengthy carrier agreement. The HTC Desire 610 comes with a 4.7-inch qHD display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory, and an 8-megapixel rear camera.
Although its specs are quite mediocre and the plastic casing doesn't exactly scream "stylish," the HTC Desire 610 comes with popular software features such as Blinkfeed, Zoe, and BoomSound.
AT&T has officially started selling both smartphones as of Friday, July 25. Head over to the carrier's website here if you're interested in the Amazon Fire, or at this link if you'd like to purchase the HTC Desire 610. As expected, the Fire Phone is also available directly from Amazon.
