Motorola sets Sept. 4 press event for Moto X+1, Moto G2, Moto 360
Alexandra BurlacuMotorola has officially announced that it has scheduled a press event for Sept. 4, where it's expected to unveil its next generation of devices.
More specifically, the company is expected to take the wraps off its Moto G2 and Moto X+1 smartphones, as well as the highly-anticipated Moto 360 smartwatch.
The news of the event doesn't come as much of a surprise, as September is expected to be a busy month full of new devices and rival companies such as Samsung and others have already sent out press invites for their events.
Several reports so far have indicated that Motorola is gearing up to unveil a successor to its Moto X smartphone, which is rumored to launch as the Moto X+1. The company is also expected to unveil a new generation of its budget-friendly Moto G, which has proved to be its most popular smartphone ever. Recent rumors, however, suggested that the Moto G2 may cost double compared to the original model, so it remains to be seen whether it will be equally successful.
Meanwhile, the round-shaped Moto 360 has made an appearance at the Google I/O 2014 conference, rocking Google's Android Wear OS, but it was not ready for prime time. The Android Wear-powered LG G Pad and Samsung Gear Live also made their debuts at the conference, but while these two smartwatches already hit the market, the Moto 360 was pegged to launch later this summer. With Motorola's event coming up on Sept. 4, the Moto 360 is now expected to take center stage.
The Moto G2 has leaked on several occasions and a recent GFXBench listing also revealed some of its specifications. The smartphone will reportedly sport a 5-inch display with a 720p resolution, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel front shooter. The Moto G2 is rumored to hit retail on Sept. 10, but it remains unconfirmed for now.
When it comes to the Moto X successor, the Moto X+1 is expected to come with a 5.2-inch full HD 1080p display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage capacity, and microSD support for additional storage. Other rumored specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front shooter, and Android KitKat rocking the software side.
Keep in mind that all of the above-listed specs are in the rumor state for now, so it's best to take everything with a grain of salt until the official announcement. In the meantime, you can check out Motorola's event teaser at this link.
