LG G3 Stylus officially touted, not quite the Galaxy Note 4 killer
Alexandra BurlacuThe LG G3 Stylus is set to make its formal debut at the IFA 2014 trade show that kicks off in early September, but LG has already shared precious details.
Not too long ago, LG "accidentally" released a video that revealed the LG G3 Stylus, without offering any real information about the device. More specifically, the video in question was a promotional clip for the LG G3 Beat, but at the end it also featured an unannounced LG G3 Stylus.
At the time, everyone thought the LG G3 Stylus would launch to challenge the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which would've meant high-end specs and features all around. As it turns out, this is not exactly the case. LG has now shared the specifications of the G3 Stylus and it sounds more like a mid-range device than a top-notch phablet. Nevertheless, the company touts that the LG G3 Stylus comes with smart and premium features and will be available at a budget-friendly price point, without compromising quality.
"With its exceptional hardware and exceptional price that can't be beat, the LG G3 Stylus is in a category all by itself," boasts Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, in the press release on Tuesday, Aug. 26. "The LG G3 Stylus is the perfect tool for consumers who don't want to be bogged down carrying a laptop, tablet and smartphone. It gets things done and lets you have fun while doing without having to compromise on quality, style or user experience."
In terms of hardware, key specifications include a 5.5-inch qHD IPS display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, a quad-core processor (unspecified) clocked at 1.3GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage capacity, and a microSD card slot for additional memory. The device further packs a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 1.3-megapixel front shooter, and a 3,000 mAh removable battery to keep things up and running. On the software side, the LG G3 Stylus runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box.
Despite its mid-range specifications, the LG G3 Stylus comes with some premium features borrowed from the flagship G3, including QuickMemo+, Dual Window, Smart Keyboard, Touch & Shoot, Gesture Shot, and Knock Code.
The new LG G3 Stylus will hit commercial availability in 3G markets starting in Brazil this September, followed by markets in Asia, Middle East and Africa, and CIS. The handset will be available in black, white, and gold color options. LG has yet to offer pricing details for the device, but will provide more information at the time of launch.
