Google to launch 64GB Nexus 5 alongside Motorola-made Nexus X (Nexus 6)
Alexandra BurlacuGoogle may launch a new Nexus 5 version alongside its next-generation Nexus 6 smartphone, if a new report turns out to be accurate.
Nexus devices have always been very popular due to the fact that they pack good specifications and come at affordable price points, while also offering the much-touted Nexus experience that guarantees timely updates as soon as a new Android version is released.
LG has made the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 smartphones, but earlier this year the company said it would no longer be in charge of the 2014 Nexus smartphone. While taht statement prompted some to believe that Google would ditch the Nexus line altogether in favor of its new Android Silver project, others remained confident that some other company would take over and deliver the new-generation handset.
Motorola is now expected to make the next-generation smartphone for Google, unofficially dubbed as the Nexus 6 or Nexus X. While this iteration is expected to make its debut soon, a new report now claims that Google is not done yet with the Nexus 5 either.
For now, the Nexus 5 is available in two storage configurations - 16GB and 32GB. If the latest report turns out to be accurate, however, storage-hungry Nexus 5 fans are in for some good news. According to the folks over at TK Tech News, Google and LG will launch a larger-capacity 64GB Nexus 5 alongside the new Nexus 6 this year.
The Nexus 5 may no longer be among the latest smartphones out there, but it still has plenty to offer. In terms of pricing, meanwhile, TK Tech News claims that the 64GB version may be very affordable. While new Google flagships typically retail for roughly $350 - $400, the 64GB Nexus 5 may reportedly be cheaper than that. Considering that this variant will allegedly launch alongside the new Nexus X, it would make sense to cost less in order to attract customers eben if it's older.
When it comes to the purported Nexus X coming from Motorola, the handset is expected to sport a 5.9-inch display and high-end specs, but some reports also suggested that it may come with some premium pricing.
It's all in the rumor state for now, however, so make sure to take this report with a grain of salt.
