An OPPO N1 successor is en route as the OPPO N3, expected to debut next month, and newly-leaked images suggest a rather unorthodox design.

The OPPO N1 has already stirred lots of interest with its design, as it sports a rotating camera that can serve both as a front and a rear shooter. The smartphone also received high praise for its CyanogenMod ties, but its successor may be even more intriguing.

"At OPPO, we've always respected boldness, beauty, ingenuity and the challenges of our rivals. We have faith in both technology and innovation because they are the driving forces of our modern lives," OPPO CEO Tony Chen said on Friday, Sept. 12, in a post on the company's Facebook page.

"Throughout the mobile phone to smartphone evolution we at OPPO have gone with the times, yet we have never changed in our core pursuit of beauty and originality. Soon, we will see the release of our newest product. We sincerely hope that our product accomplishes out desire to improve lifestyles, and to provide many more pleasant surprises to our users."

In an exclusive new report, the folks over at GSM Arena now claim to have a couple of images of the upcoming OPPO N3 smartphone. The images reportedly came from an anonymous tipster, who GSM Arena believes it has "very good reasons to trust."

"The images we were sent reveal a very unorthodox design, which incorporates the trademark feature of the Oppo N series - the rotating camera," the publication notes. "This means that, just like on the N1, you will be able to use the Oppo N3's primary camera for selfies, enjoying its full quality for your self-portraits."

The rotating camera, however, is not even the most intriguing aspect of this upcoming smartphone. Based on the leaked images, the OPPO N3 will have quite an interesting design, looking somewhat like a half of a flip-phone. More specifically, the photos indicate that the N3 will be considerably thinner than the N1, but the higher-end camera apparently warrants a thicker, bulging part on top. The rotating camera on the OPPO N1 did not require any extra thickness.

The leaked images further reveal that the OPPO N3 will come with a dual-LED flash, a feature its predecessor also sported. No other details are currently available regarding this upcoming OPPO N3 smartphone, which means that it remains unclear for now just what processor it will pack, what screen size and resolution, what camera specifications, how much RAM, and so on.

In other words, all that we know so far is that the OPPO N3 may have a peculiar design with a rotating camera. With so little to go on at this point, we'll have to wait for OPPO to provide more details on its upcoming flagship smartphone next month.

The company teased a press event it has scheduled for October, where it is expected to reveal its next-generation N3.
