Google's latest Android L has yet to make its formal launch, but a newly-leaked video nonetheless shows the new OS running on a Samsung Galaxy S5.

Just a few months ago, Google gave the world a first peek at the next major version of its popular mobile operating system. The next OS iteration is currently referred to as Android L, as the company has not revealed the official dessert-inspired name that will grace this version.

Not long after it unveiled the new OS, Google released developer images for some of its Nexus devices, as Nexus hardware is typically the first in line to receive a new Android build.

Nevertheless, those who have been curious to see just how the new Android L would run on non-Nexus hardware, an 8-minute video has now leaked showing the new OS on a Samsung Galaxy S5. Note that the image above depicts an Android L preview Google offered, not the software running the Galaxy S5 in the video.

The leaked video comes from SamMobile, which claims to have learned from sources that Google will ultimately name its new OS Android Lollipop. This name has been rumored before, but other names were speculated as well.

This Android L build running on the Samsung Galaxy S5 is reportedly in its early stages. The build number is LR258J, and it's apparently test firmware for the Galaxy S5 with model number SM-G900F. It remains to be seen just how Samsung will implement this new Android version, as Android L is expected to come with something new called Material Design, and Samsung already has its TouchWiz UI with plenty of customizations.

The video review shows how native applications such as Clock, Dialer, Memo, Messages, and others have been designed, and how they work on the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Not all buttons and knobs give animated feedback and some of the animations appear to be missing here, but that's not so unusual considering that this is a test build.

Several things are expected to change once the final build is ready for release, so don't take this video for granted. While it may give us a better idea of how the new software would look on a non-Nexus device, keep in mind that nothing is official or final just yet.

With that in mind, check out the video below to see how an Android L test build runs on a Samsung Galaxy S5.
