Verizon Xperia Z3 launching on Oct. 23 as Xperia Z3v, sporting slight changes
Alexandra BurlacuThe Sony Xperia Z3 smartphone powerhouse is set to hit Verizon Wireless later this month, launching on Oct. 23 as the Xperia Z3v.
Sony's presence on the U.S. smartphone market has been somewhat limited so far, as the company has chosen to sell its devices either in unlocked form, straight from its online store, or through T-Mobile. The Xperia Z2, for instance, took ages to hit the U.S. market, arriving months after it launched in other markets.
That seems to be changing now with the company's latest flagship, as Sony has announced that the new Xperia Z3v will be hitting Verizon Wireless later this month. The Verizon-bound Xperia Z3v sports some differences compared to the standard Z3 model, so here's the deal.
Xperia Z3v specs
First of all, the most obvious change is the design, as the Xperia Z3v lacks the rounded edges of the standard Xperia Z3, which makes it look more like the Z2. On the other hand, Verizon's version of the smartphone will come with built-in wireless charging, as well as a slightly bigger 3,200 mAh battery.
Otherwise, the Xperia Z3v sports the same 5.2-inch full HD display, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5Ghz, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage capacity with microSD support for additional memory, and the same 20.7-megapixel rear camera, as well as Sony's waterproofing technology.
"Xperia Z3v brings many of our latest innovations and standout features to Verizon customers in the US, such as the highest waterproof rating, Hi-Res Audio support, PlayStation 4 gaming through PS4 Remote Play and the camera expertise of our Cyber-shot and Handycam divisions in the 20.7MP camera," Sony touts in a company blog post. "In addition, we've collaborated with Verizon to bring some additional capabilities with their customer in mind, such as wireless charging using the latest inductive 'Qi' technology."
Pricing and availability
The Sony Xperia Z3v is set to make its commercial debut on Verizon Wireless' network on Oct. 23, going on sale for $200 when agreeing to sign a two-year service agreement with the carrier. Verizon is now allowing customers to register their interest in the device and receive notifications when more product and launch details become available. In the meantime, check out the video below to learn more about the Verizon-bound Sony Xperia Z3v smartphone powerhouse.
