Sony Xperia Z3 Compact U.S. launch: Available for purchase now for $529.99
Alexandra BurlacuThe Sony Xperia Z3 Compact smartphone is officially available for purchase in the U.S., directly from the Sony Mobile Store.
Sony has started selling its new Xperia Z3 Compact in the U.S. unlocked and contract-free through its online store, offering the device for $529.99. Interested customers can choose between white, black, orange, and green color options for the handset.
Just a couple of days ago, we reported that the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact had popped up on the U.S. Sony Mobile Store and appeared to be available for purchase, but clicking the "Buy Now" button would instead redirect users to the company's eShop without allowing them to actually buy the handset.
Sony has apparently fixed the issue, as interested buyers can now get the Xperia Z3 Compact unlocked and contract-free from the company's web store. Clicking the "Buy Now" button now does exactly what it's supposed to do, allowing customers to choose their desired color option for the smartphone and place their order with the Sony eShop.
It remains unclear at this point whether the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact will be available in the U.S. only in unlocked form, or whether any carrier will offer the handset subsidized in the future. Buying the smartphone unlocked means that one can use it on any network, but it also means paying full retail price for the device.
The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact arrives as an uncompromising smartphone, offering high-end specs and features despite its smaller form factor. The handset sports a 4.6-inch display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5Ghz, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage capacity, expandable up to 128GB via microSD. Other specs include a powerful 20.7-megapixel rear camera, a 2.2-megapixel front shooter, IP65/IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, and a 2,600 mAh battery to keep things up and running. Moreover, the Xperia Z3 Compact also comes with PS4 Remote Play, which allows it to serve as a gaming console remote.
With such specs on board, the $529.99 price tag for the unlocked, contract-free Sony Xperia Z3 Compact sounds reasonable. As previously mentioned, no information is currently available regarding any carrier subsidies for the smartphone, but we'll keep you up to date as soon as we hear more.
