Gmail 5.0 for Android leaks online, reportedly aims to handle ALL email
Alexandra BurlacuGoogle is reportedly gearing up to release an updated Gmail 5.0 for Android soon, and some exciting details have now surfaced in this regards.
Just last week, Google formally launched its latest Android 5.0 Lollipop, with the new Nexus 6, Nexus 9, and Nexus Player serving as its launch vehicles. The company is expected to release Android 5.0 Lollipop to existing devices early next month, with the Nexus lineup set to receive the new software treat first.
Google has also been busy updating its apps to reflect its new Material Design philosophy, but the company is reportedly saving a few apps for the final Lollipop release. Gmail 5.0 is apparently one of them, and it will roll out when Android 5.0 Lollipop is ready to start its journey.
While Google made no official announcement so far regarding its next version of Gmail for Android, a new report now details some of the new features that are in store. More specifically, the folks over at Android Police have managed to get a glimpse of the upcoming Gmail 5.0 and claim that the update will bring exciting new features and functionality.
"While we won't be distributing the updated Gmail app until the official update is released, we will be sharing a goody from the new onboarding process, which shows some of the new awesomeness coming to the app in its overhaul," Android Police reports.
"Specifically, it looks like Google's gearing up to handle all your email with Gmail, not just your Gmail account."
This would mean that Gmail will be able to work with other email accounts from other companies. In other words, users will be able to handle their Yahoo, Outlook, or other email accounts with Gmail, easily switching between accounts.
In addition to allowing users to handle multiple accounts from different email providers, the overhauled Gmail 5.0 will reportedly get a brand new look as well. Round avatars, new iconography, and cleaner compose screen are just a few of the visual enhancements that will reportedly be making their way to the new Gmail.
Android Police even shared a video showcasing the fresh new look at Gmail 5.0, so head over to its website to check it out.
As always with leaks, however, take everything with a grain of salt until an official announcement.
