LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade starts rolling out this coming week
Alexandra BurlacuThe LG G3 powerhouse will be the first LG smartphone to get the new Android 5.0 Lollipop flavor, with the rollout scheduled to start next week.
LG has officially announced that its flagship LG G3 will be getting an update to the very latest Android 5.0 Lollipop very soon. Starting this coming week, the rollout will begin in Poland, with other key markets set to follow afterwards.
"LG Electronics (LG) this week will begin rolling out the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade for G3 smartphones starting in Poland this week, to be followed by other key markets in the near future," the company announced in a new press release on Sunday, Nov. 9. "LG, the first global smartphone manufacturer to offer the Lollipop upgrade in 2014, will subsequently announce an upgrade schedule for other LG mobile devices."
While this announcement is definitely exciting, it's also a bit intriguing considering that Google itself has yet to start rolling out its latest Android 5.0 Lollipop to existing Nexus devices. The Nexus lineup is typically the first in line to receive any new OS version, but this time the rollout seems to be delayed over some battery draining issues that are reportedly affecting the Nexus 5.
Nevertheless, LG plans to start rolling out the new update as soon as this coming week, with LG G3 users in Poland as the first to get it. Android 5.0 Lollipop will bring notable improvements on all fronts compared to the previous version of the OS, and LG touts that the update will make its G3 even more attractive.
"LG is absolutely committed to giving our customers the best mobile experiences available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a top priority," boasts Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is."
Moreover, the company further touts the secure connectivity features Android 5.0 Lollipop will bring to the table, allowing users to pair their LG G Watch or some other Android Wear-powered gadget with the G3 via Bluetooth and securely unlock the smartphone.
LG has yet to provide rollout dates for other markets outside of Poland, but we'll make sure to keep you up to date as soon as it offers a more detailed upgrade schedule.
