LG Tab Book Duo Windows 8.1 tablet convertible officially unveiled
Alexandra BurlacuLG just unveiled the latest member of its Tab Book lineup, introducing a Windows 8 tablet convertible called the Tab Book Duo.
The first Tab Book made its debut back in 2013, but never saw the wide adoption LG was likely hoping for. The lineup has since switched between Windows and Android, and the latest addition now returns to Windows again.
LG has announced its new Tab Book Duo as the ultimate portable workstation, touting that its device is both thin and light for extra convenience. Alone, i.e. as a tablet, the Tab Book Duo weighs in at just 530 grams, which is about the weight of a bottle of mineral water, touts LG. Adding the Bluetooth keyboard, meanwhile, will turn the tablet into a laptop and increase the total weight to 792 grams.
The keyboard add-on boasts a one-push setup button for a hassle-free connection, and it can also connect to other devices aside from the Tab Book Duo. On the other hand, LG's new convertible doesn't come with the versatility of other hybrids out there. While others come with various modes and angles, the Tab Book Duo only has a kickstand to keep it propped up.
In terms of specifications, the new LG Tab Book Duo sports a 10.1-inch IPS LCD display and packs a quad-core Intel chipset under the hood. The device further features an USB 3.0 port, a micro HDMI port, and will allegedly last for up to 11 hours on a single charge. On the software side, the device runs Windows 8.1.
LG hasn't revealed any additional details regarding the rest of the device's specifications at this point, but is expected to offer more information shortly. The company launched the new Tab Book Duo in Korea and announced a price tag of 740,000 KRW, which would translate to roughly $670. Both the tablet and the keyboard add-on come in black or white color options, and interested customers will receive a free Microsoft wireless mouse as a bonus if they purchase the LG Tab Book Duo between Dec. 15 and 22. It remains unclear at this point when the device will become available in other markets outside of Korea, but the company should provide more details soon.
