Apple Lucky Bags promotion for Japan kicks off on Jan. 2
Alexandra BurlacuApple has officially announced its much-touted "Lucky Bags" promotion, an annual New Year's retail tradition for customers in Japan who want to make some neat savings on iProducts.
For those unfamiliar with this tradition, "Lucky Bags" consist of various packages with Apple products and customers can save hundreds of dollars by purchasing such bags rather than buying the items separately.
As Japanese blog Kodawarisan first reported, Apple has posted the terms and conditions for the 2015 Lucky Bags promotion on its Japanese retail website, announcing that the offer will kick off on Jan. 2. Each year, many Japanese Apple Store locations typically open a couple of hours early in order to cater to the large number of customers eager to take advantage of the offer.
This Lucky Bags promotion is called Fukubukuro in Japanese, and each year major retailers and department stores give customers the chance to purchase sealed grab bags filled with popular Apple items. Customers choose the bag they want without knowing exactly what it will contain, but oftentimes such bags include expensive items. In other words, customers who choose to take advantage of this offer take a risk because they don't know what they'll get, but the combined value of the offered goods is nearly always higher than what customers pay for.
For its last Lucky Bags promotion, for instance, Apple offered four different Fukubukuro packages at 36,000 yen each (roughly $343 based on conversion rates at the time). Some of those bags contained valuable items such as an iPad Air, an 11-inch MacBook Air, or a first-generation iPad Mini, which made those packages more than worth it at that price.
Apple has not yet revealed the pricing for the 2015 Lucky Bags, but popular, expensive items should be included in the new deal as well.
Just like in the past years, interested customers who want to take advantage of the Apple Store Lucky Bags will be able to do so only at brick-and-mortar Apple Stores, as the offer is not available online. As always, customers are still limited to just one bag per day, and they will not be able to return the items unless they are defective. In other words, even if you got something you're not too happy about, you cannot return it just because you wanted something else.
The 2015 Apple Lucky Bags promotion will kick off in Japan at 8 a.m. on Jan. 2.
