Xiaomi laptop with intriguing specs in tow, affordable price tag leaks in first images
Alexandra BurlacuXiaomi is reportedly looking to enter the PC market with a laptop of its own and the first images of the purported device have now leaked online.
Dubbed the "Apple of China," Xiaomi had its fair share of success with its smartphones and tablets so far, as its devices typically sell out in no time. The company has broken record after record in terms of sales and has quickly risen to become the world's fourth largest smartphone manufacturer, and it now seems that Xiaomi is looking to expand its horizons even further.
The company has been rumored for a while now to have a laptop in the pipeline, and a new leak now offers the world a first look at the purported device, courtesy of GizmoChina. Moreover, the report in question also offers some details regarding the notebook's configuration, hinting at an affordable device with great specifications for its price point.
In terms of appearance, the purported Xiaomi Mi laptop looks very similar to Apple's MacBook Air, save for the logo on the front and back of the device. The device sports a bright orange "MI" branding just below the display, as well as a silver "MI" logo on the rear. The leaked images also reveal an orange function button, which will reportedly allow the user to set custom functions.
When it comes to specifications, the Xiaomi laptop will reportedly feature a 15-inch 1080p display and pack the latest Intel Haswell i7-4500u processor with 2 x 8GB dual-channel memory under the hood. On the software side, the device is expected to run a customized version of Linux.
Lastly, the report also notes that the upcoming Xiaomi laptop is rumored to cost around 2,999 Yuan, which would translate to roughly $481.
If this turns out to be accurate, the Xiaomi MI laptop would come with very attractive specs for its price tag, and may turn out to be a strong contender on the PC market.
On the other hand, it's all in the rumor state at this point, as Xiaomi made no official announcement regarding plans to launch a laptop. As always in such cases, it's best to take all leaks, rumors, and reports with a grain of salt.
