AT&T HTC One M8 OTA update rolling out ‘early next week’
Alexandra BurlacuHTC One M8 owners are finally in for some good news, as an update is scheduled to start rolling out early next week.
While some may be hoping to get a taste of Android Lollipop, this OTA will only bring the AT&T HTC One M8 to Android 4.4.4 KitKat for the time being. The update will, however, bring VoLTE and the much-touted HTC One Experience to the smartphone.
Just a few days ago, AT&T released an Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for its version of the HTC One M8, but pulled the software shortly after. At the time, HTC explained that AT&T had started rolling out the update prematurely, and that's why it was only briefly available. The software in question didn't even include the HTC Eye experience, which was a bit odd.
When the update was pulled, neither AT&T nor HTC offered an exact timeframe for when it would resume rolling out to AT&T HTC One M8 users. Nevertheless, HTC has now spoken up and said the update received technical approval (TA) and should start rolling out shortly.
The news comes from HTC's Mo Versi himself, who confirmed the imminent rollout in a post on his Twitter account.
"We just received TA on 4.4.4 for AT&T M8. Will include VoLTE and the HTC Eye SW experience. OTA to start early next week," reveals the tweet.
This may not be the highly-anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout, but it still brings some neat features to the table. The HTC Eye Experience, for instance, aims to enhance the smartphone's camera capabilities and add a number of new features such as Split Capture, Face Fusion, Screen Share, Face Tracking, and more.
Other carrier versions of the HTC One M8 have already received their updates to Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and it was about time AT&T extended the same courtesy to its subscribers. It remains unclear at this point, however, just when carrier versions of the HTC One M8 will finally get a taste of Android Lollipop.
For now, Android 4.4.4 KitKat is set to start rolling out over-the-air (OTA) very soon. As always with OTA updates, keep in mind that the process is gradual and it takes a while for the update to reach all devices.
