ASUS ZenWatch sequel could boast 7-day battery life
Alexandra BurlacuASUS is reportedly working on a ZenWatch sequel that could boast a long battery life of up to a week, according to a new report.
The wearable device market has really taken off in 2014 with various attractive gadgets hitting the scene, and things are expected to heat up even further in 2015. The ASUS ZenWatch was one of the most attractive smartwatches last year, drawing lots of interest due to its sleek design, affordable price tag, and better autonomy compared to rivals.
While the ZenWatch (pictured above) is still quite fresh, ASUS is reportedly working on a successor already and the next-generation smartwatch from the company is expected to be even more impressive.
The current ASUS ZenWatch already boasts an attractive battery life compared to other gadgets on the market, but the bar is currently not very high. No current smartwatch offers a truly impressive battery life, but that may well change with the ZenWatch sequel.
According to a report from Focus Taiwan, ASUS is working on a ZenWatch sequel that may last for up to seven days on a single charge. ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih reportedly offered hints in this regards last Saturday, according to the report.
More specifically, Shih told the media that the processor and operating system of a companion device such as a smartwatch ought to be simplified in order to increase battery life and last for up to seven days on a charge, instead of just two days as currently possible.
It's worth pointing out that the same publication revealed back in late December that ASUS was working on a new ZenWatch and was aiming to release the gadget sometime in the third quarter of this year. At the time, Focus Taiwan claimed the next-generation ASUS ZenWatch would come with an independent voice calling feature, which would allow users to enjoy the device's functionality without necessarily having to pair it with a smartphone.
No official information is currently available regarding the specs, features, and functionality of the next-generation ZenWatch, but it's confirmed that a sequel is set to arrive later this year.
If the next Asus ZenWatch does indeed manage to offer a full week of battery life on a single charge, it would have a leading edge over competitors. Until such plans actually materialize, however, take things with a grain of salt.
