HTC One M8 Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA rolling out now in Europe

European versions of the flagship HTC One M8 smartphone have started to receive the highly-anticipated update to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Back in the summer of 2014, HTC promised to deliver an update to Android L within 90 days of the source code availability. That timeframe meant a Feb. 3 deadline, and it seems HTC will make good on its promise after all.

So far, HTC has already rolled out Android 5.0 Lollipop to the developer and the unlocked versions of the HTC One M8 earlier this month, and a wider rollout was expected to follow shortly. Carrier versions of the smartphone are next in line, and it seems that users in Europe are in for some good news.

"HTC One (M8) owners in Europe, have a sweet tooth this morning? Check your software updates!" HTC communications executive Jeff Gordon (@urbanstrata) boasted in a Twitter post on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

The update has already started rolling out over the air (OTA) in Europe and should reach an increasing number of HTC One M8 units in the near future. HTC ROM developer and trusted tipster LlabTooFeR further reveals that the update package weighs in at 780MB and will bring the device to software version 4.16.401.10.

The update to Android 5.0 Lollipop will bring a number of neat updates and features to the device, including floating notifications, lockscreen notifications, a redesigned notification dropdown, a new interface for the recent activities section, and more. The update should also improve the overall experience and performance of the smartphone.

The HTC One M8 is already a very popular device, as it boasts top-notch specs and features and a premium design that received high praise. The latest update to Android 5.0 Lollipop will now make the device even more attractive, especially since many have been eagerly waiting for it to roll out.

As always with OTA updates, however, keep in mind that the rollout is gradual and it may take a while to reach all devices. This means that even if the update is not available for your device just yet, it should arrive momentarily.

HTC is expected to offer more details regarding the global Lollipop update rollout for carrier versions of the One M8, and we'll keep you up to date as soon as it does.
