Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 getting Android 5.0 Lollipop now
Alexandra BurlacuThe Samsung Galaxy S5 is finally getting Android 5.0 Lollipop in the U.S., as the update is now rolling out to the Verizon version of the handset.
It always takes longer for carrier versions of smartphones to get the latest updates, but it's nonetheless great news for consumers when updates finally become available. Android 5.0 Lollipop has gradually been making its way to more devices recently, but carrier versions of flagship devices such as the HTC One M8 and the Samsung Galaxy S5 were left waiting.
While HTC recently reckoned that it will miss its 90-day deadline for delivering Android 5.0 Lollipop to the One M8 in the U.S., Samsung has apparently kicked things off when it comes to its flagship.
It makes for an even more pleasant surprise to see that the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 is getting a taste of the Lollipop flavor now, not a good while after the update hits other carrier versions of the handset. Verizon is notorious for taking its sweet time when it comes to updates, but this time around the carrier has apparently done things in a timely manner.
The eagerly-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop will bring a slew of neat changes and improvements to the Samsung Galaxy S5, albeit the OEM's own TouchWiz UI still rests on top. Nevertheless, Samsung has reportedly tweaked its TouchWiz to make it look and feel brighter, with bold colors and fluid animation inspired by Material Design, Verizon explains in a PDF detailing the update. Other changes will include a new lock screen, an updated multitasking interface, enhanced notification controls, ART by default, and more.
The update has already started rolling out over the air (OTA), and apparently it's quite heavy. As Droid Life reports, it's actually coming in two updates due to its large size.
Lastly, keep in mind that OTA updates are always gradual, which means that it will not reach all devices at the same time. Don't worry you have yet to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop for your Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5, it's on its way. If you have already received the update, however, drop by our comment section and let us know how it all fares.
