JAQ: The Portable Fuel Cell Made To Charge Your Smartphones With Salt And Water
Mary Cris BalancioInnovations are getting more unique and efficient as time passes by. New tech companies have been sprouting one after the other and have been expanding more as they have developed what could be the next "it" thing in town. This 2015, we have seen the rise of smartphones plus apps and tools that could help make your handheld device more efficient than the usual standard programs.
Some have gone on to find a solution to the looming battery problem while at the same time, being mindful of mother earth. That is how we came across a fuel cell that promises to ensure that a user's mobile phone never runs of battery power again while being eco-friendly at the same time.
The new fuel cell from myFC is being called as "JAQ." This battery uses only water and salt to be able to power the portable charger. It is easy-to-carry as the device is small enough for it to fit one's pocket or purse. How does this one work then? Each single use of the PowerCard produces enough "green" energy to fully charge a user's hand held device.
This JAQ fuel cell is made out of recycled materials and never needs an outlet. What it needs is the PowerCard, which contains salt and water, for this eco-friendly charger to work. After it has been inserted, the JAQ fuel cell is then connected to the user's smartphone or other devices that have a USB cable.
The water and salt inside the cell then react to produce the hydrogen that is needed to charge the device. This generates about 1800 mAh for each card which is equal to that of a typical device charger. According to myFC AB CEO Björn Westerholm, mobile accessibility is critical for everyone and the demand for charging options geared towards devices like smartphones have been increasing. This new fuel cell is travel-certified and has passed international airplane regulations, keeping in mind how each user can use it on-the-go.
The cell made by the Swedish developers is created to work with USB compatible devices including iOS, Windows, and Android phones and tablets. For a limited time one can pre-order it for a two year payment for about $5 USD per month. myFC's JAQ will also be featured in the upcoming CES in Las Vegas from Jan. 6-9, 2016.
