'The Winds of Winter': George R. R. Martin Denies May Release Date

Jazz Rosin

Fans would have to wait a bit longer as George RR Martin himself denied the claims of a May release date for his fantasy novel "The Winds of Winter".

Game of Thrones and George RR Martin fans alike have been speculating about the release date of much awaited 'The Winds of Winter', the sixth book in the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series.

The best-selling author has shared a chapter of "The Winds of Winter' on his website, with several characters that are not on 'Game of Thrones'. The chapter featured the view of Arianne Martell, heiress of Sunspear, and the future ruling Princess of Dorne. She is also a POV character in 'A Feast for Crows', released in 2005. The said chapter reveal fuelled speculations that the book is already done, and will be released sometime this month.

The author said that his latest novel will not come out this month, however. Writing on his blog, the author has confirmed that he is still working on his latest novel. "Changing the sample chapter does not mean I am done," Martin said. The author said further that the edited chapter will be a good teaser for 'The Winds of Winter'.

"You want to know what the Sand Snakes, Prince Doran, Areo Hotah, Ellaria Sand, Darkstar, and the rest will be up to in Winds of Winter? Quite a lot, actually. The sample will give you a taste. For the rest, you will need to wait," he wrote on his blog.

Fans have been waiting for a long time for the sixth book to come out, as the fifth book in the series, A Dance with Dragons, was released way back in 2011.

Martin explained in a recent interview by Galaxy's Edge how he used deaths in his writing. "Mortality is at the soul of all this stuff. You have to write about it if you're going to be honest, especially if you're writing a story high in conflict." Martin said. "Once you've accepted that you have to include death then you should be honest about death and indicate it can strike down anybody at any time. You don't get to live forever just because you are a cute kid or the hero's best friend or the hero. Sometimes the hero dies, at least in my books." With this said, fans of the series should expect more deaths in the author's latest book.

Martin has confirmed in a separate interview with IGN that there is a twist in 'The Winter of Winter' that cannot be applied to the 'Game of Thrones' TV show, due to a character that was already killed off in the series.
