E3 2016 Update: 'Harvest Moon: Skytree Village' Heads to Nintendo 3DS

Harvest Moon developer Natsume revealed its newest title, Skytree Village, on Twitter today.

The popular farming sim franchise is said to be heading to the Nintendo 3DS, and a playable demo will be shown at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3.

Nintendo Everything reports the overview of the story. The power of the Harvest Goddess has dwindled, which turns the once lush and green Skytree Village into a dry, desolate land. The player's goal is to bring Skytree Village back to life by reviving the seven Skytrees and restoring the Harvest Goddess' powers.

"After the evolutionary Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley and a successful jaunt to mobile platforms with Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories, we are really excited to share everything we have learned with our fans," President and CEO of Natsume Hiro Maekawa said. "Our community is very important to us, and their feedback and input has been taken into account a great deal in the development of Harvest Moon: Skytree Village! We hope they will see and feel their contribution in this new game!"

Taka Maekawa, Producer of the Harvest Moon series, confirmed that the team has made sure that the elements which made Harvest Moon wil be coming back to the new game. "We are looking forward to seeing players try the game during E3 2016," Maekawa said.

Ever since the original developers, Marvelous, left Harvest Moon, the franchise has struggled with the latest title releases, Digital Trends noted. Marvelous has since developed its own farming simulation titles like Xseed's Story of Seasons. Natsume has retained the rights to Harvest Moon, and has produced The Lost Valley in 2014 (pictured above), which got mostly negative responses from the longtime fans of the game.

Players will be meeting new characters in Skytree Village, along with some familiar faces. Natsume promised a "full town of many residents" this time, a departure from the previous Harvest Moon title.

Natsume has not mentioned a release date for Harvest Moon: Skytree Village, but this might be revealed at E3 in a few days.
