Game developer Bungie and publisher Activision revealed the latest expansion for their massively multiplayer shooter, "Destiny". However, the "Rise of Iron" DLC will only be available on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
According to the official Bungie website, the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 will now be referred to as "legacy consoles".
"This Fall, you'll still be able to play Destiny on legacy generation consoles," Bungie said. "But that journey will occur on a separate path."
The game developer went on to explain that its team will still support the "Destiny" players on the legacy generation consoles. This means that PS3 and Xbox 360 owners can still play "Destiny" on their consoles, but new content will no longer be available for them.
Those who opt to upgrade from legacy to new-gen, however, can port their existing characters onto the new system, provided that the new machine is in the same console family.
Bungie will give out more information about the legacy and new-gen split over the next few weeks.
"Rise of Iron" is an "exciting addition to the Destiny universe", according to Bungie CEO Pete Parsons. The latest "Destiny" includes new areas, such as the Plaguelands and Felwinter Peak. The Wall, which is the "Destiny" starting area, has also been recreated as a new area players can revisit, Gamespot reports.
There will also be a new endgame raid, new and updated strike missions, and more patrol and public events. New Crucible maps will also be added, along with brand new CG and in-game cinematics.
A new enemy faction will also be introduced, the Fallen, which are mutated versions of the earlier enemies.
"Destiny: Rise of Iron" will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One on September 20, and will have a price tag of $30. In order to get the DLC, the players should have the base "Destiny" game installed, as well as all the earlier expansions, "The Dark Below", House of Wolves" and "The Taken King".
Players who buy the game early will get the black and silver Iron Gjallarhorn Rocket Launcher as a pre-order bonus. Order here.
