Chiral Molecules Found In Deep Space Made Up Of Propylene Oxide, Confirms Researchers
Dheeraj RFew reports have emerged on the Internet stating that the scientists at the California Institute of Technology have found out the chiral molecules in the deep interstellar space. The researchers have confirmed that the molecules are around 28,000 light years away from the Earth's surface and consist of propylene oxide.
Canberra Times reported that the propylene oxide is one of a class of the chiral molecules, which have an identical chemical composition. There are reports that the discovery of the chiral molecules, a.k.a the propylene oxide in deep space, will help the research scientists to understand the life on Earth and its relation to the important biological functions.
"Propylene oxide is among the most complex and structurally intricate molecules detected so far in space," said Brandon Carroll, a chemistry graduate student at Caltech, in a statement as reported by RT.com. "Detecting this molecule opens the door for further experiments determining how and where molecular handedness emerges and why one form may be slightly more abundant than the other."
Besides, it is reported that the chiral molecules are 'handed' molecules and are typically found in meteors and comets. Space stated that the molecules have been detected in the deep interstellar space for the first time near the center of our Milky Way galaxy in a star-forming cloud of dust and gas known as Sagittarius B2.
WSJ claimed that the researchers found the tints of propylene oxide in a shell of gas outside the core of Sagittarius B2. This discovery has led to the confirmation that the complicated molecules like chiral molecules can be formed on ice grains in the spread clouds of interstellar gas and dust.
Meanwhile, the scientists at the institute have revealed that the recent discovery of chiral molecules has generated a basis to test various theories related to the origins of Life.
The reports also suggested that the researchers have used the National Science Foundation's Green Bank Telescope and the Parkes radio telescope to study the chiral molecules.
