'World of Final Fantasy': Chibified Versions of Tidus, Edgar, Shelke and More Featured on Famitsu
Jazz RosinThe adorable "Final Fantasy" JRPG spin-off "World of Final Fantasy" gets the spotlight on today's issue of Weekly Famitsu. Tons of screenshots from the game are featured in the magazine, with the introduction of known characters and creatures from the "Final Fantasy" world.
"World of Final Fantasy" will be featuring animated "chibi" versions of the "Final Fantasy" cast. Chibi is a Japanese slang word for "short person" or "small child." In the manga or anime fandom, the term chibi is attached to the "super deformed" style of drawing, with characters having cute oversized heads.

In the Famitsu issue, screenshots of classic characters like Tidus from "Final Fantasy X" and Celes and Edgar from "Final Fantasy VI" were shown.
Surprisingly, a character from the action game "Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII" is included in the "World of Final Fantasy" lineup. Shelke will also be given the chibi treatment in "World of Final Fantasy."
Other familiar creatures such as moogles, cactuars, marlboros and bombs will also get the cute makeover in "World of Final Fantasy." Dualshockers have uploaded the magazine scans on their page.
The story of "World of Final Fantasy" follows the adventures of twin siblings Lann and Reyne as they roam the world of Grimoire. All the Grimoire's creatures are all rendered in their cute smaller forms, however, the twins can switch between their chibi and normal forms.
The normal-sized characters in the game were designed by the veteran series designer Tetsuya Nomura. The chibi versions were drawn by Yasuhisa Izumisawa, who previously worked on Nintendo Gamecube "Final Fantasy" game "Crystal Chronicles."
The great Yoshitaka Amano designed the artwork for the logo of the game (see image above).
Director Hiroki Chiba talked about "World of Final Fantasy" during an interview with RPG Site last year. The director said that they wanted to bring back the energy and the excitement that the original "Final Fantasy" titles have brought.
On the decision to use chibi characters in the game, Chiba said, "So when deciding on a character, we approached Mr. Izumisawa from Crystal Chronicles because he loved to draw cute characters."
Chiba also said that it is challenging to introduce a new kind of art style on an existing franchise, especially for one as big as "Final Fantasy." Fortunately for them, Producer Shiji Hashimoto liked the design and the new look.
"World of Final Fantasy" will be released for the Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita on October 25 in the US, and October 27 in Japan.
