'Devil May Cry 5': Capcom May Skip Ninja Theory's 'DmC' Reboot; Tokyo Game Show Announcement Possible?
Jazz RosinCapcom is yet to reveal the latest installment to the "Devil May Cry" franchise. However, according to speculations, "Devil May Cry 5" may possibly pick up where the original story has left off, completely disregarding the reboot made three years ago.
This rumor came about as Ruben Langdon and Johnny Yong Bosch, the voice of Dante and Nero in "Devil May Cry 4" respectively, was shown together in a picture wearing mo cap suits and was posted by Bosch on Facebook in March. The image was since deleted.
It is worth noting that the "DmC" reboot employed a different actor for Dante, with Tim Phillipps lending his voice instead of Langdon. Given that Bosch voiced Nero, whatever they are doing mocap for could well be a follow up to "Devil May Cry 4."
Capcom has revealed almost all of its previous "Devil May Cry" titles at the Tokyo Game Show, except for "Devil May Cry 3." Judging from its absence from Capcom's E3 showcase this year, Redditors speculate that the next "Devil May Cry" title might possibly be revealed at this year's TGS, which will happen in September.
The first "Devil May Cry" was released in 2001 and has been cited as the beginning of action subgenre "Extreme Combat," and has become the standard against which other 3D action games are measured.
The video game turned into a highly successful franchise, spawning multiple sequels and prequels, as well as a novel and an animated series.
Capcom then released "DMC: Devil May Cry," serving as a reboot for the whole series. It was said that Japanese Capcom staff encouraged the Western staff to take the franchise to a different direction, due to the fact that "Devil May Cry 4" fared poorly sales wise compared to other action games.
The reboot initially received negative response especially from the fans of "DMC." The game, however, received generally positive reviews when it was released eventually.
So is Capcom really working on "Devil May Cry 5?" We may possibly find out in September.
